Mindfulness is about being fully awake and present in our lives. It allows us to identify better our reactions when we face stressful situations that lead to physical and psychological suffering. It also helps us cultivate an access to internal resources for growth and healing.
The MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) course is an 8 week group course developped by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn over 30 years ago at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (USA). Mindfulness practices use the immediate experiences of the moment, including the movement of the breath, sensations in the body, physical movements, sounds, smells and tastes as anchors for our nonjudgemental attention. This facilitates a more stabilized way of relating to our inner and outer experiences.
The various proposed activities are independent of any spiritual commitments. They are very much based on a contemporary approach of body-mind well-being.
The course is taught by Lothar Bielke. I am economist with a Master in Business Administration and International Management, working as trainer and professional coach. I have received training at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (CfM).
